Eammon Martin | Last British Male to Win the London Marathon
I got the honour to meet this ledgend back in 2010 at the London Marathon Show, he was great to talk to and an inspiration to all distance runners.
Eammon was the last British Male to win the London Marathon, Eammon ran 2hrs 10mins 50secs to win London in 1993.
The race finished in a sprint to the finish line between Eammon and Mexican Athlete Isidro Rico. That race was also Eammons debut marathon! He went on to win again at the Chicago Marathon in 1995 in a time of 2hrs 11mins 18secs.
Eammon went on to compete at top level on the roads, track and cross country. His major track title was in the 10,000m at the 1990 Commonwealth Games, where he won in a time of 28:08:56
He was national cross-country champion in 1984 and in 1992 and won the Belfast International Cross Country in 1991.
