The Olympic Oath
The Olympic Oath is taken by one athlete and one judge from the home nation, acting on behalf of all competitors and judges.
Athletes have taken the oath since 1920, although the wording has changed over the years and judges have been taking the oath since 1972.
Since 1984 the athlete & judge taking the oath holds the corner of the Olympic Flag.
The flag bearers form a semi-circle while the athlete from the host nation mounts the rostrum to take the oath.
